Makenzie Tavares

Makenzie Tavares is a graduate of Acadia University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics with a focus on international relations, gender, and foreign policy. Passionate about research and advocacy, Makenzie has dedicated her academic and professional journey to examining the intersection of gender, politics, and global conflict. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Makenzie engaged deeply with Indigenous studies, exploring the cultural, political, and historical dimensions of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosuanee, and Mi’kmaq communities, which enriched her perspective on equity and justice. She presented her research at the Canadian Undergraduate Security Conference in both 2023 and 2024, addressing the gendered dynamics of conflict and peacekeeping. Makenzie’s most recent work centers on the gendered dimensions of geopolitical violence in Palestine, focusing on women’s resistance efforts and the broader implications of violence on gender equality in the region. This research underscores her commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and contributing to meaningful policy discourse. She aspires to bridge the gap between research and impactful policy initiatives, shaping solutions that address systemic inequities and empower marginalized communities.
